Because of the unique format of the RMPHL playoff series (first team to 4 points win) we have a unique situation when game 3s are played.

Here is a reminder of what we do.

- if each team has won one game already (series is tied 1-1) and a team is winning by two or more goals the game clock will be dropped to 2 minutes when there is 5 minutes left on the permit time.

- If each team has won one game already (series is tied at 1-1) and a team is winning by one goal the game clock will be dropped to 2 minutes when there is 5 minutes left on the permit time. Should the team that is losing tie the game and there is less that 5 minutes left of the permit the game will immediately go to a shoot-out. Each team is to use 5 shooters (the team that had the most point during the regular season has the choice to shoot first or second). Players who are serving penalties when the shoot-out starts are not eligible for the shoot-out. Should the shoot-out be tied after 5 shooters each team will send out one additional shooter until a winner is determined. Teams are to go through the entire roster of skaters (no goalies) until a player who shot previously may shoot again. Once again, a player that is serving a penalty when the shootout commences will not be able to participate.

- If each team has won one game already (series is tied 1-1) and the games is tied with 10 minutes left on the permit time the clock will be dropped to 2 minutes. This full two minutes must be played. If a team scores during this two minutes then that will be the final result. If neither team (or both teams) score during the two minutes (game is still tied) then after the two minutes proceed to the shootout as indicated above.

- If one team has won one game and the other has finished in a tie and if the team that has not won a game is leading this game then with 10 minutes left on the permit time the clock will be dropped to 2 minutes. This full two minutes must be played. If the team that has been losing this game (but leading the series) ties the game in this two minutes then that result will stand. If neither team (or both teams) score during this two minutes (the series would be tied with each team having a win and a tie) then after the two minutes proceed to the shootout (rules indicated above).

Scorekeepers are to make note of which players have shot during the shootout and if a goal was scored or not.

Please try to get shooters in order quickly to possibly avoid being run off the ice by the zamboni.

If the shootout cannot be completed because the rink attendants had to clear the ice for the next game then the shootout will be determined by a flip of the coin between team reps from each team.

Scorekeepers are being e-mailed this. Team reps and scorekeepers should print this out and bring it to the rink with them and show this to the refs prior to the game so that they are aware of how to handle the game.
